Signposters

What is a Signposter?

Wellby Signposters are caring community members who help reach those who are hard to reach. Informed about Talking Cafes and trained to use the Found Directory, Signposters help friends, family, colleagues and neighbours find what they are looking for in their community, improving their social connectedness.

What does a Signposter do?

A Signposter’s job is simply to point someone in the direction of a Wellby Talking Café or to the Found Directory, or give them some printed information. It’s as simple as signposting, or pointing them in the right direction to services available in the Nelson Tasman region.

Who can be a Signposter?

Anyone and everyone can be a Signposter.

How can I become one?

We run short information sessions on how you can learn more about Wellby and help others become more connected to their communities. If you’d like us to run a session at your workplace, group or organisation, please see below on how to get in touch.

How much do I need to know about services in my community?

As a Signposter, you’re not expected to know everything. You can use the Found Directory to search, on the behalf of others who cannot, for relevant service organisations, community groups and resources that can support them.

Can I really help everyone?

As a Signposter, you’re not expected to fix everything. You simply need to help someone take their first (or next) step towards connecting within their wider community.

Why become a Signposter?

There are personal benefits that come to people who help their community. By paying it forward, you help people feel part of their wider community. Along the way, you’re bound to feel a greater sense of belonging too.

How can I get involved?

Signing up to become a Wellby Signposter is easy. Check to see if there’s an upcoming information session you'd like to attend below, then click 'Register Now' to sign up.

Or just get in touch with us to organise training for your group or organisation at hello@wellby.org.nz
